Braziers International Artist's Workshop Residencies
Braziers is an artist-led organisation that promotes and supports international exchange for visual artists. Founded in 1995, they organize an annual workshop that invites about 25 artists from around the world for a 2-week group residency.
Braziers Workshop removes artists geographically and conceptually from their usual studio practice and brings them together in a way that is mutually beneficial, contributing to a developing international dialogue. Artists from Africa, Central Asia, Europe, India, North and South America have taken part, working in a variety of disciplines and media: time-based, photographic, film/video, new media, installation, painting and sculpture.
In recent years, Braziers have enabled selected artists' residencies to be extended for a further six-weeks in a number of host venues. Art Space Portsmouth has been one of the studio hosts on three occasions. In 2006 two Art Space Portsmouth members, Natalie Dowse and Mike Blackman, participated in a reciprocal Arts Council England and Braziers International Artists Workshop Fellowship at 'Art Home' Riga, Latvia for six weeks.
