| STATEMENT | ||
|
Like many artists my paintings probably reveal as much about myself as the subjects they depict, which at present are people interacting with artwork in gallery spaces. Sometimes well known spaces and art and sometimes not. The paintings are very often small and painted in oil on smooth primed board. This allows a fluid approach to painting. The paintings are always made in series and are specific recording of my trips to art galleries, usually in London, where the day becomes an expedition and an event. I will take as many as 200 low-resolution digital images using small cheap cameras as a journal of my day. Usually between fifteen and twenty paintings are cloned from these images and are titled with the date and exhibition visited. The works can be seen as ironic, the viewer being viewed and viewing. Sometimes the figures are known to me and sometimes not. The cyclical method of working creates a rhythm in my working practice, that suits my personality and I hope helps unite the finished artworks.
