Living in A Doll’s House: Unlocking themes of Power and Control beyond the boundaries of Home.

The idea comes from Henrik Ibsen’s play “A DOLL’S HOUSE” (1879) … which deals with the human struggle against the constraints of social conformity particularly in relation to marriage, gender and power.
Although social developments have lessened the shock value of the Play, it still retains strength in its depiction of material dependency and in its forceful demonstration of the ways in which expectation and role-playing in human relationships can stifle an individual’s inner reality (Unabridged re-publication, Dover 1992).
This exhibition aims to explore further in relation to how legacies, perhaps learnt at home, can extrapolate into work environments and beyond; human struggle, social conformity, power and conflict are key words considered.
