Agata Wojcieszkiewicz

I am an artist painter, living in Portsmouth.

I specialise in figurative/representational painting and drawing. My works are very detailed and based on the precise study of the nature inspired by ”Old Masters” techniques. This particular interest comes from extensive traditional training that I gained during my MA course back in Poland, where art education is still relatively academic and very much based on the observation of nature.

My work is largely autobiographical. My practice is about a sense of security and belonging based on feelings of nostalgia. Using traditional expressive methods and tools as well as digital I crowd my paintings with detailed imagery inviting viewers to come closer for a more intimate and profound experience, to scrutinise and contemplate what they see.

My pictures have an immersive quality that coaxes the viewer to look at the world in a different way. The slow mediums of painting and drawing juxtaposed in today’s jpeg image-saturated culture engender a meditative quality that I believe has the power to change perceptions.
