Jan Frith

Jan Frith uses various technologies including a range of time-based media. This enables an exploration of motion, living working parts and machines and she often contrasts the historical contexts of technologies, exposing the material aspects of technology or human/technological relations. She also explores ideas of control and chance in the process of making.

Additional visual references can be seen at arachne-art.co.uk, an artists group, which she co-founded. Born in Hertfordshire, Jan now works in London and the Isle of Wight. She studied originally for a commercial marketing career before returning to university to study fine art at both the University of Westminster and Central Saint Martins. She was shortlisted for the Red Mansions art prize in 2003 and the Pizza Express Prospects contemporary drawing prize in 2004 for her Super-8 film works.
