UCA Farnham 20×20 Takeover

Thursday 1st February

6pm for a 6.30pm start

Come and join us on Thursday 1st February to hear final students from UCA Farnham Naomi Escott, Sarah Liebenberg, Hima Bijoy and Charlie Coe, talk about their practice as they forge towards their final graduation show.

We open at 6pm to socialise and have a drink for a 6.30pm start, and finish by 9pm. Each artist will use the Pecha Kucha format of 20 images for 20 seconds each, giving us scope to take in their practice/research and leave time at the end for questions and points of discussion.

Admission is free.

Sarah Liebenberg

Explores themes of visibility and invisibility in societal norms through her art. Combining sculpture and photography, and incorporating makeup as a medium, her work encourages viewers to reconsider their perceptions of identity and societal standards. Sarah’s approach reflects a thoughtful engagement with these themes, creating a space for introspection and dialogue.

Naomi Escott

Making work that explores the threads and traces of connection and how these lines are bound in the everyday detritus that surrounds us, Naomi’s practice is a considered response to this concept. As an inter-disciplinary artist, with an interest in narrative, story and connection, Naomi creates work that is diverse and expansive in scope, across differing mediums. Drawing on the echoes of memory, she look to the presence of absence in our daily lives and the way in which we attempt to circumnavigate this human truth.

Hima Bijoy

Hima is an inter-disciplinary artist, enthusiastic about discovering different mediums and combing them. Extremely passionate about found material and the usage of discarded material in sculpture and performance. Currently mainly working with large-scale Abject sculpture that have surrealist and transgressive contexts. Attached to the concept of “The other”, Hima is interested in the relationship between the viewer and the abject sculpture and how this relationship transforms and object into performance.

Charlie Coe

Focusing on sculpture, photography, and performance art, Charlie’s work explores her relationship with body and identity. Addressing unconscious biases and beauty standards, especially after undergoing body changes from breast cancer treatment. Inspired by feminist artists, she challenges societal norms, inviting audiences to discuss uncomfortable topics and embracing voyeurism to question preconceived notions. She sees change as an integral part of survival, making us unique and fostering growth.
